Beru Diesel Start Systems Pvt. Ltd. (Beru India), a joint venture between Jayant Group and Beru-Germany, has invested Rs 30 crore in a new greenfield facility at Talegaon to manufacture cold starting systems such as glow plugs, grid heaters, glow plug controllers, electronic parts and allied system components for the auto industry. This facility ha been earmarked as a base to bring in advanced Beru product range in Ignition Technologies, Automotive Electronics and Sensor Technologies as well as Ignition Products for the Heat Industry. The unit was recently inaugurated by Dr. Thomas Waldhier President, BorgWarner Beru Systems in presence of its various customers and senior management of the company. The shop floor is built up over 40000 sq ft and houses a totally automatic glow plug manufacturing line, intake manifold, grid heater and glow plug controller line. The entire line has been imported from Germany to bring in the manufacturing excellence at high production rates and uncompromised quality standards. The company plans to double its manpower to 60 by end of this year when the plant would be running in ramp -up phase. Special trainings have been conducted at parent plant in Germany to upgrade employee skill levels to handle this line. The timing of the new plant could not have been better as it coincides with the phase when the Diesel Segment is booming and India is moving towards stringent emission norms where Beru products play a significant role in reducing white smoke through better cold-starting Beru has had a manufacturing footprint in India since 1996 with a manufacturing plant for glow plugs in Pune. This has now also moved and merged with the new Talegaon plant. This new facility resulted due to the ever increasing demand of the BERU products and the company's strategy to create India as a strategic business entity in the Asia- Pacific Region especially with the growth of the regional Automotive Industry locally and its demand internationally. Beru has increased its capacity to 5 Million glow plugs from the existing 1 million glow plugs. Beru supplies its products to the passenger car, commercial vehicle, off-highway and industrial segments in India. Its customers include Tata, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ford, Ashok Leyland, Fiat. GM, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Renault-Nissan are expected to join the list soon. It is to be mentioned that Beru is the world leader in glow Plugs and is present with almost all major OEMs globally.
